Custom Canopy Tents for Markets, Festivals, and Outdoor Events
A branded canopy is the only thing at an outdoor event that people can see from the other end of the field. No walls, no aisles, no signage grid. Just whichever tent reads clearly from fifty feet away.
Firebird Prints prints custom canopy tents in Vancouver for farmers markets, festivals, sports events, sampling activations, and outdoor trade shows. Full colour dye sublimated tops, aluminium frames, optional printed walls, and everything packed into a wheeled bag.
Canopy Tent Sizes
- 10×10. The standard market stall and the size most event organisers allocate. Covers 100 square feet and fits a six foot table with room for two staff and a queue point.
- 10×15. Useful when you need product display along one side as well as a service counter at the front.
- 10×20. Two stall widths, for sampling operations, larger sponsor activations, or teams that need a back of house area.
- 5×5. A compact option for tight sidewalk spaces and small sign up stations.
Legs are telescopic, so peak height adjusts across roughly three settings. Lower it when it is windy, raise it when you need headroom over a counter or a queue.
Steel or Aluminium Canopy Frames
This is the decision that matters most, and it is the one most buyers skip. Frames are not all the same, and the difference shows up in year two.
Steel, 30mm square leg. The entry option. Heavier to carry, perfectly adequate for occasional use, and the cheapest way to get a branded tent out the door.
Aluminium, 40mm hex leg. The commercial standard. Around a third of the weight of steel with comparable stability, push button locking, and a wall thickness in the 1.2 to 1.5mm range. This is what most market vendors and event teams should be buying.
Aluminium, 50mm hex leg. Heavy duty. For tents that go up every weekend through a full season, or that need to stand through weather other tents get taken down for.
If you are setting up more than a handful of times a year, take the aluminium. Steel frames get abandoned in storage because nobody wants to carry them.
Canopy Fabric and Certification
Tops are printed on 600D PU coated polyester. Water repellent, UV resistant so the colour does not wash out over a summer of direct sun, and tear resistant at the seams and corner pockets where tents usually fail.
Fire certification matters more than most buyers realise. Municipal permits, fire marshals, and many market and festival organisers will ask for proof that your canopy fabric is flame retardant before they let you set up. The relevant standards are CPAI-84, NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, and the Canadian tents regulations under SOR/2016-185.
Ask us for the certificate with your order and keep a copy in the tent bag. It gets requested more often than people expect, usually on the morning of the event.
What Gets Printed
A canopy has more branded surface than people plan for. There are four roof panels and four valances, which are the vertical skirts that hang below the roof edge.
The valances are the part that actually gets read. At ground level people see the skirt, not the roof, so that is where the business name goes. The roof panels are for aerial photos, drone footage, and anyone looking down from a grandstand or a hill.
Everything is dye sublimated, meaning the ink is bonded into the polyester rather than sitting on the surface. It does not crack at the fold lines, does not peel, and holds colour through repeated sun exposure. Gradients and photographic imagery print as easily as flat colour.
Walls and Add Ons
- Full back wall. Closes the rear of the tent and doubles as a photo backdrop. The single most useful upgrade.
- Half walls. Waist height panels that define the booth and give you a counter edge without shutting people out.
- Full side walls. For weather, storage, or privacy. Zippered door panels available where you need a controlled entry.
- Single or double sided printing. Print the outside only where the wall backs onto another vendor. Print both sides where people see it from behind, which at most markets they do.
- Matching pieces. A printed table throw and a set of custom flags at the corners is what turns a tent into a proper booth.
Anchoring, and Why Stakes Are Often Useless
Every kit ships with stakes and tie down ropes, which work on grass and dirt. On pavement they do nothing, and most urban markets, sidewalk activations, and parking lot events in Vancouver are on pavement.
For those you need weights on all four legs. Sandbags or weight plates, on every leg, every time. Many market organisers make this a condition of trading and will ask you to pack up if the tent is not weighted.
A properly anchored commercial frame handles the wind you would normally trade in. Nothing handles a real gust front, so take the canopy down when it turns. Tents get destroyed by being left standing, not by being taken down early.
Looking After It in Vancouver
Here is the thing nobody selling tents online tells you, because most of them ship from somewhere dry.
In this city your canopy will get packed away wet. That is what kills tents here. A damp canopy folded into a bag and left in a garage for two weeks comes out with mildew spotting that will not come off the print.
Hang it or lay it out to dry fully before it goes back in the bag, even if that means draping it over something at home the next day. Hand wash with mild soap when it needs it, never a washing machine. Do that and a canopy lasts seasons rather than summers.
What Comes in a Custom Canopy Tent Kit
- Custom printed canopy top, roof panels and valances
- Collapsible frame in your chosen grade, with telescopic legs
- Stakes and tie down ropes
- Wheeled roller bag
- Printed walls where specified
The top weighs under ten pounds on its own. The frame is the heavy part, so two people make setup easy and one person can manage it with a bit of patience. Figure on about five minutes from bag to standing.
Designing Canopy and Valance Artwork
Outdoor branding fails when it is designed to be read at desk distance.
- Put the business name on the valance, large, in high contrast
- Keep the roof simple. It is mostly seen in photographs
- Avoid fine text and thin strokes, they disappear in daylight glare
- Dark colours look sharp but run hot under direct sun
- Send vector where possible, and allow for the seams between panels
We review every file for scale, placement, and resolution and send a mockup before printing so you can see how the artwork sits across the roof and the skirt. If the artwork needs building, our designers handle it.
Reprint the Top, Keep the Frame
Frames outlast branding. When you rebrand, add a sponsor, or the design starts looking dated, you order a new printed canopy and the existing frame carries on. It is a fraction of the cost of a new tent and the only part that ever really needs replacing.
Where Branded Canopy Tents Get Used
- Farmers markets, night markets, and street markets
- Festivals and community events
- Sports tournaments, race finish areas, and team tents
- Food and beverage sampling
- Outdoor trade shows and parking lot activations
- Real estate open lots and construction site offices
- Registration and information points at outdoor events
Local Printing in Vancouver
We print at our shop on Victoria Drive in East Vancouver and supply across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Local pickup means you can collect the tent, check the print, and have it in the van the same day rather than waiting on a courier from another province.
If you are exhibiting indoors rather than outdoors, a pop up display is the right product. Tents are for open air.

Custom Canopy Tent FAQ
What size tent do I need for a market stall?
A 10×10 covers the standard stall allocation at most markets and fits a six foot table with room for staff. Check what your organiser has assigned before ordering, since some sites allocate smaller footprints.
Is the canopy fabric fire certified?
Ask us for the certificate with your order and keep a copy with the tent. Fire marshals and event organisers can request proof of flame retardancy, and it tends to be asked for on the morning of the event.
Steel or aluminium frame?
Aluminium if you set up regularly. It is roughly a third of the weight for similar stability, which is the difference between a tent that gets used and one that stays in storage. Steel is fine for occasional use on a tighter budget.
How do I anchor the tent on pavement?
With weights on all four legs. Stakes only work in grass or dirt. Sandbags or weight plates are required at most urban markets and organisers do enforce it.
Can it handle rain?
The fabric is PU coated and water repellent, so normal rain runs off. The thing to watch is not the rain itself but packing the canopy away damp, which causes mildew. Dry it fully before storing.
What parts of the tent can be printed?
All four roof panels and all four valances, plus any walls you add. The valances are what people read at ground level, so that is where the name belongs.
Can I replace just the canopy later?
Yes. Frames outlast branding, so a rebrand or a new sponsor usually means a new printed top on the same frame.
How long does setup take?
About five minutes. Two people is comfortable, one person is possible. The frame concertinas open and the printed top attaches at the corners.
