Adjustable Banner Stands and Telescopic Backdrops
Booth sizes change. One show gives you ten feet, the next gives you eight, and the conference after that puts you in a corner of a hotel ballroom with a pillar in the way.
An adjustable banner stand solves that. The frame is built from telescoping poles that slide in and out, so the same hardware covers a range of widths and heights instead of one fixed size. Firebird Prints supplies and prints these in Vancouver for trade shows, conferences, photo walls, and event backdrops.
It is also the least expensive way to get a full width backwall behind your booth.
How the Expanding Frame Adjusts
Two crossbars and two uprights, all telescoping. You extend them to the size you need and lock them with push button connectors or clamps. No tools.
- Standard 10ft frame. Adjusts roughly from 77 to 120 inches wide and 38 to 96 inches high.
- Smaller 8ft frame. Adjusts roughly from 54 to 96 inches wide, for tighter spaces and tabletop use.
- Frame finish. Silver or black, so it disappears against most graphics.
- Feet. Weighted base feet that balance the frame without adding much to carry.
That range covers almost every inline booth allocation you will be given, plus a lot of hotel and conference spaces that were never designed for exhibitors.
One Frame, Different Sized Graphics
This is the part that saves money over a few years.
The graphic is a printed fabric banner with pole pockets sewn along the top and bottom. It slides onto the crossbars like a curtain. Because the frame adjusts, you can run different sized banners on the same hardware.
So a 10ft banner for the big spring show, an 8ft banner for the regional one, and a step and repeat graphic for the awards night, all on one frame you already own. When branding changes, you print a banner rather than replacing a display.
Setting Up an Expanding Display Kit
One person, about ten minutes. Extend the uprights, slide the banner onto the top and bottom poles, connect the crossbars, stand it up, and adjust the tension.
It packs into a soft carry case and weighs little enough that it goes in a car rather than a crate. For local shows that means you avoid freight handling entirely.
Fabric Graphics and Pole Pockets
Fabric. Dye sublimated polyester with sewn pole pockets. Wrinkle resistant, machine washable, and it packs folded without cracking the print. The default choice for indoor use.
Vinyl. Heavier banner material with hemmed pockets, for outdoor use or where the graphic needs to take more handling. Heavier and it creases, so only choose it if the setting calls for it.
Design points that matter on this format specifically. The pole pockets take a few inches off the top and bottom of the visible area, so keep important content clear of both edges.
Because the frame is adjustable, the fabric tensions across a range rather than one exact size, so avoid designs that depend on a perfectly precise edge. Large simple artwork works better here than tight geometric layouts.
Send vector where possible. We check placement and resolution and send a proof before printing.
Using It as a Media Wall or Step and Repeat
The same frame is what most step and repeat backdrops are built on. Print a repeating logo pattern instead of a booth graphic and you have a media wall for a launch, an awards evening, or a conference photo point.
If that is the main use rather than a booth, look at custom backdrops, where we cover step and repeat layout and spacing properly.
Expanding Display Kit vs Pop Up vs Tension Fabric
Three systems cover the same wall, and they are genuinely different.
Adjustable banner stand. Cheapest, and the only one that changes size. Best if your booth allocation varies or the budget is tight. The frame is visible at the edges.
Pop up display. Fastest. The graphic stays attached to a collapsible frame, so setup is a single motion. Fixed size.
Tension fabric display. Best looking. Silicone edge graphics sit flush in an extruded frame with no visible hardware, and the system is modular. Slowest to assemble and the most expensive.
Buy on how your booth changes and how much you care about the edge finish, not on which one is newest.
Where These Get Used
- Trade show and expo back walls
- Conference and seminar stage backdrops
- Step and repeat and media walls
- Career fairs and recruiting events
- Product launches and roadshows
- Retail pop-ups and in store promotions
Local Printing in Vancouver
We print at our shop on Victoria Drive in East Vancouver. You can collect the stand, see the banner before it goes out, and get a replacement graphic printed quickly when a date or a booth size changes at short notice.
For shows at the Vancouver Convention Centre, BC Place, or the PNE, picking up locally means the display travels in your own vehicle rather than through the freight dock, which usually avoids material handling charges. We supply across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley and ship nationally.
Finishing the Booth
A back wall on its own leaves the front of the booth empty. Most exhibitors add a printed table throw, a counter, and a retractable banner at the aisle edge.

Adjustable Banner Stand FAQ
How much does the frame adjust?
The 10ft frame runs roughly 77 to 120 inches wide and 38 to 96 inches high. The smaller frame covers about 54 to 96 inches wide. Both adjust by hand with no tools.
How is this different from a pop up display?
A pop up has a fixed size collapsible frame with the graphic permanently attached, so it expands in one motion. This system uses telescoping poles that adjust to different sizes, and the banner slides on through sewn pole pockets.
Can I use different sized banners on the same frame?
Yes, and that is the main reason to buy one. Adjust the frame to suit and slide on whichever banner fits the show.
How long does it take to set up?
About ten minutes for one person. No tools required.
Can I use it as a step and repeat backdrop?
Yes. It is the same frame most photo walls use. Print a repeating logo layout instead of a booth graphic.
Fabric or vinyl banner?
Fabric for indoor use, because it packs without creasing and washes clean. Vinyl where the graphic needs to take rougher handling or go outside.
Can I reprint the banner later?
Yes. Send us the frame size and we will print a new banner with the correct pocket allowance. Hardware outlasts branding by years.
Will it fit in a car?
Yes. It collapses into a soft carry case and is light enough for one person to carry, which is why it works well for local shows.
